JULIANNE TRIPP HILLIAN

As a Richmond-based award-winning freelance photographer, I spend my days capturing a diverse range of subjects from news and events to food, restaurants, lifestyle editorials, portraits, music, performances, and product photography.

My passion for photography began in high school and my journey continued in college at Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Arts, where I pursued a BFA, majoring in photography complemented by a minor in media studies. During my time at VCU, I immersed myself in a semester abroad in Bristol, England, where I continued my photography studies. Over four years, I dedicated my lens to capturing the essence of campus life, serving as a dedicated photographer for The Commonwealth Times, eventually rising to the position of Photo Editor.

 

Since earning my degree, I have spent nearly seven years honing my craft as a photographer and have actively contributed to a variety of Richmond publications such as Richmond Free Press, Richmond Magazine, and Richmond Times Dispatch. Over the years, my work has been deeply fulfilling as I've seized opportunities to document protests in Virginia's capital and showcase the culinary delights of renowned local eateries. I've had the privilege of spotlighting influential figures within Richmond while freezing timeless moments in my images at some of the city's iconic events such as the Folk Festival, Pridefest, and Riverrock.
